I imagine it would be quite amusing if, somehow, Arnold almost accidentally caught a glimpse of Helga's oh-so-sacred shrine to her beloved footballhead.
I think this could easily be an event that takes place either before or after they get together. Either way, having Arnold see that stuff in her closet would be pretty embarrassing for Helga.
Poor crazy girl probably didn't shut it properly and wasn't thinking that this might happen when Arnold had to come to her house to work on some school project.

What if Arnold soon gets a letter in the mail that says "Dear Arnold, you may have assumed Helga has always hated you because you of course know how she always picks on you & makes your life an unending cycle of humiliation & agony. Well, you might be alarmed when I reveal the truth about her: actually, she secretly has a huge crush on you; I once peeked into her closet while she was absent & it is filled with picture frames, lockets, & shrines all dedicated to you.
